Beam me up: Scientists say human teleportation is ‘possible’ as they transfer atoms three metres in groundbreaking experiment

  • Team were able to send atoms 3 metres
  • System could create secure quantum internet

By Mark Prigg

Star Trek-style ‘beaming up’ of people through space could become a reality sometime in the far future, the leader of a landmark teleportation experiment has said.

Nothing in the laws of physics fundamentally forbids the teleportation of large objects, including humans, researchers claim.

They were able to transport an atom three metres with 100% accuracy.

Star Treks transportation room: Researchers now say the technique is possible - although a 'long way off'

Star Treks transportation room: Researchers now say the technique is possible – although a ‘long way off’

HOW THEY DID IT

In Prof Hansons’ experiment, three entangled particles – a nitrogen atom locked in a diamond crystal and two electrons – were used to transfer spin information a distance of three metres.

Four possible states were transmitted, each corresponding to a ‘qubit’, the quantum equivalent of a digital ‘bit’.

Each ‘bit’ of information in a classical computer represents one of two values, normally zero or one.

But a ‘qubit’ can represent a zero, a one, or a ‘superposition’ of both states at the same time.

‘What we are teleporting is the state of a particle,’ Prof Hanson, from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, said.

‘If you believe we are nothing more than a collection of atoms strung together in a particular way, then in principle it should be possible to teleport ourselves from one place to another.

‘In practice it’s extremely unlikely, but to say it can never work is very dangerous.

‘I would not rule it out because there’s no fundamental law of physics preventing it.

‘If it ever does happen it will be far in the future.’
In contrast, it is physically impossible for anything to travel faster than light.

Prof Hanson’s team showed for the first time that it was possible to teleport information encoded into sub-atomic particles between two points three metres apart with 100% reliability.

The demonstration was an important first step towards developing an internet-like network between ultra-fast quantum computers whose processing power dwarfs that of today’s supercomputers.

Teleportation exploits the weird way ‘entangled’ particles acquire a merged identity, with the state of one instantly influencing the other no matter how far apart they are.

Giving one particle an ‘up’ spin, for instance, might always mean its entangled partner has a ‘down’ spin – theoretically even if both particles are on different sides of the universe.

Albert Einstein dismissed entanglement, calling it ‘spooky action at a distance’, but scientists have repeatedly demonstrated that it is a real phenomenon.

The demonstration was an important first step towards developing an internet-like network between ultra-fast quantum computers whose processing power dwarfs that of today's supercomputers.

The demonstration was an important first step towards developing an internet-like network between ultra-fast quantum computers whose processing power dwarfs that of today’s supercomputers.

The research is published in the latest online edition of the journal Science.

Prof Hanson said: ‘The main application of quantum teleportation is a quantum version of the internet, extending a global network that we can use to send quantum information.

‘We have shown that it’s possible to do this, and it works every time that you try.
‘It provides the first building block of the future quantum internet.

‘One application nearest to a real life application is secure communication.

‘What you’re doing is using entanglement as your communication channel.

‘The information is teleported to the other side, and there’s no way anyone can intercept that information. In principle it’s 100% secure.’

A more ambitious experiment, involving the teleportation of information between buildings on the university campus 1,300 metres apart, is planned in July.

It is hoped this will answer Einstein’s main objection to teleportation, the possibility that a signal passes between entangled particles at the speed of light.

‘I believe it will work,’ said Prof Hanson.#

‘But it’s a huge technical challenge – there’s a reason why nobody has done it yet.’

A Comprehensive look at the South/East China Sea Disputes

Posted in Conspiracy, Energy, Law, Military, Politics, War, Warnings on May 31, 2014 by betweentwopines

By Wrabbit2000 of ATS.

Overview of the South China Sea

. . .The sea is rich in resources and holds significant strategic and political importance.

The area includes several hundred small islands, rocks, and reefs, with the majority located in the Paracel and Spratly Island chains. Many of these islands are partially submerged land masses unsuitable for habitation and are little more than shipping hazards. For example, the total land area of the Spratly Islands encompasses less than 3 square miles.

Several of the countries bordering the sea declare ownership of the islands to claim the surrounding sea and its resources. . .

Indeed it does, and indeed they certainly do. I was rather surprised to see just HOW much is out there and just how many claimed how much of the south China Sea.
The study included a significant area of the South China Sea, which the USGS estimates may contain anywhere between 5 and 22 billion barrels of oil and between 70 and 290 trillion cubic feet of gas in as-yet undiscovered resources (not including the Gulf of Thailand and other areas adjacent to the South China Sea).

…..but, that’s not all. The Chinese have higher ideas of what may be out there. Much much higher.
As the USGS assessment did not examine the entire area, undiscovered resources could be greater. In November 2012, the Chinese National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) estimated the area holds around 125 billion barrels of oil and 500 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in undiscovered resources, although independent studies have not confirmed this figure.
The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) has not yet resolved ownership disputes in the South China Sea. The 1982 convention created a number of guidelines concerning the status of islands, continental shelves, exclusive economic zones (EEZ), enclosed seas, and territorial limits. UNCLOS states that countries with overlapping claims must resolve them by good faith negotiation.

(From the U.S. Energy Information Administration)

The EIA site also has very detailed break downs, far beyond anything quoted, by nation and more than once. It covers different aspects of the topic, with text analysis.

It’s a very thorough look, in my opinion, and very well worth time taken to read it all, if this is an area that really interests you.

Those territorial claims are hard to quite get when it just says “ALL”, so, that brings us to the second resource. It’s a rather powerful way of seeing it. In fact, it’s a whole presentation in itself, quite literally, bringing several ways of covering a bit of everything on the subject.

The Council on Foreign Relations is the subject of much for conspiracy theory, and I don’t bring that up but to say it has been, and not a part of what I’m looking at here. What they also do is produce international analysis which is both interesting and extremely informative. In this case, they almost out did themselves.

East and South China Sea Claims is an interactive map that shows the claims one by one or overlapping. They all come to overlap, in many places.

By The Numbers gives a downright easy to read look at the stakes and the amounts, at least in what is known and provable as recoverable.

Finally, the Historical Context section has a 42 page moving timeline back to 1895 for the history and the origins of the conflict.

(These are anchors across the same page, and give direct links to the section of interest)

_________________________________________________

In addition to the above, I found a couple maps the New York Times created, and most helpfully on them, a blow up of the Spratly Islands to see just who claims what and in what way.

Territorial Claims in the South China Sea / Spratly Islands..

That interactive map shows things in a different way with specific display of energy leases and claims as well as the territorial claims overall.

U.S. Gasoline Consumption Plummets By Nearly 75%

Posted in Energy, Finance, Warnings on May 31, 2014 by betweentwopines

By Jeff Nielsen via BullionBullsCanada blog,

Regular readers are familiar with my narratives on the U.S. Greater Depression, and (in particular) some of the government’s own charts which depict this economic meltdown most vividly. The collapse in the “civilian participation rate” (the number of people working in the economy) and the “velocity of money” (the heartbeat of the economy) indicate an economy which is not merely in decline, but rather is being sucked downward in a terminal (and accelerating) death-spiral.

However, even that previously published data, and the grim analyses which accompanied it could not prepare me for the horror story contained in data passed along by an alert reader. U.S. “gasoline consumption” – as measured by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) itself – has plummeted by nearly 75%, from its all-time peak in July of 1998. A near-75% collapse in U.S. gasoline consumption has occurred in little more than 15 years.

Before getting into an analysis of the repercussions of this data, however, it’s necessary to properly qualify the data. Obviously, even in the most-nightmarish economic Armageddon, a (relatively short-term) 75% collapse in gasoline consumption is simply not possible. Unless we were dealing with a nation whose economy had been suddenly ripped apart by civil war, or some small nation devastated by a massive earthquake or tsunami; it’s simply not possible for any economy to just disintegrate that rapidly, without there being some ultra-powerful exogenous force also at work.

So how can this raw data, produced by the government itself, be explained? To begin with; the government chooses to measure U.S. gasoline consumption in a very odd manner: by measuring the amount of gasoline entering the domestic supply-chain rather than by measuring actual consumption at the other end of the supply-chain – i.e. “at the pump”.

Why does the U.S. government, which (among other things) leads the world in the manufacture of statistics not produce any simple/direct measurement of gasoline consumption? How can the St. Louis Fed produce nearly 100 different charts on gasoline and diesel prices (for any/every price-category which can be imagined by these statistics geeks), but not a single chart on gasoline supply/demand?

There are several reasons for this unbalanced, anomalous, and simply absurd statistical methodology. First of all; the reason why the U.S. government produces a near-infinite number of charts on prices is because prices are what the Gamblers (i.e. bankers) use as the basis for their $100’s of trillions in gambling in the rigged casinos which the bankers call “markets”.

While supply/demand data is of utmost importance in the real world; the banker-gamblers don’t dwell in the real world. As regular readers already know; their derivatives casino, alone, is roughly twenty times as large as the entire global economy. To the bankers; the “real world” is nothing but fodder for their insane gambling.

Why use this data, at all, since it is such an inferior/distorted means of measuring U.S. gasoline consumption? Because the EIA uses exactly the same data to publish its own “estimates” of U.S. gasoline consumption:

Note: Product supplied measures the amount of gasoline that went into the supply chain and is used as a proxy for gasoline consumption. [emphasis mine]

The other half of this ridiculous statistical hodge-podge, where endless quantities of trivial/irrelevant price data are trumpeted, while any/all data which actually measures the (real) economy is suppressed (if not buried entirely) displays a government desperately trying to hide this massive economic collapse.

If you choose to measure the amount of gasoline leaving U.S. refineries and entering domestic inventories and call this “gasoline consumption”; you can hide the actual collapse in gasoline consumption – until those retail inventories are overflowing, and there is simply no more room in the storage tanks.

This is what we see today in the U.S.: a gasoline market which had been deliberately-and-dramatically over-supplied with gasoline at the wholesale end of the supply-chain (the refineries) has now practically ground to a halt. The same nation which previously amazed the world as it accumulated more automobiles and more miles of highways per capita than any nation on Earth (and by a huge margin) now has such an insane glut of gasoline that it’s massive chain of refineries have had to simply turn off the taps – until this pathetically anemic economy manages to burn-off some of that glut.

This conclusion becomes even more visible/obvious when we view the gasoline data just from the start of the mythical “U.S. economic recovery” to the present. At the start of the “U.S. recovery”; U.S. gasoline consumption was at a rate of 52 million gallons per day (already more than 20% below the 1998 all-time peak). In the five years since the start of this pretend-recovery; U.S. gasoline consumption has fallen all the way to 18 million gallons per day.

Since the beginning of “the U.S. economic recovery”; U.S. gasoline consumption has plummeted by nearly 2/3. As the pseudo-recovery began, and supposedly “strengthened”; U.S. refineries were ordered to fill up the inventories of their dealer network, in anticipation of the increased gasoline consumption which would have occurred in any real “recovery”.

But there never was an increase in U.S. gasoline consumption, because there never was a U.S. economic recovery. Rather, the Greater Depression has simply (and relentlessly) continued to pulverize the U.S. economy like a meat-grinder. To hide this devastation (as well as is possible), the government produces a wide array of its pseudo-statistics, that all contain myriad “adjustments” – which make it possible for these liars-with-numbers to distort the statistical picture of the U.S. economy beyond recognition.

Meanwhile, any/all statistics which measure raw data (and thus cannot be perverted with “adjustments”) are either suppressed (like the civilian participation rate), or not even measured, at all – as is the case with U.S. gasoline consumption. At the retail end; none of the “sales” statistics are adjusted for inflation, not even with the absurdly-fraudulent “CPI” numbers.

By not deflating sales data (at all) the collapse in U.S. gasoline consumption “at the pump” is hidden within all this unreported inflation. As explained in previous commentaries; it is this same, unreported inflation which allows the U.S. to convert its large, negative, GDP readings (which would otherwise reveal the Greater Depression) into “economic growth”. It is this same, unreported inflation which allows the government (and employers) to hide the fact that U.S. wages have collapsed by more than 50%.

But what the liars-with-numbers cannot hide (any longer) is the collapse in U.S. gasoline consumption which has accompanied the continued, downward spiral of the Greater Depression. The storage tanks are now all full. The only way to (temporarily) hide the collapse in U.S. gasoline consumption any further would be to construct even more storage facilities. However, there is no possible economic justification for increasing storage capacity in a market of steadily/relentlessly declining demand.

Indeed, the exact opposite is true. The U.S. economy of the 21st century (a mere hollowed-out husk of what it was only 20 years earlier) will require less and less gasoline storage facilities over time, reflecting a supply network for a steadily shrinking market. As the One Bank completes its plundering of the U.S. economy, and completes its transformation of the U.S. Middle Class into the Working Poor, it is also simply using up more and more of its economic lies.

The Great Inflation Lie will continue to allow the U.S. government (and other Western governments) to crank-out absurd/imaginary positive numbers for GDP. It will continue to allow the U.S. government to crank-out absurd/imaginary numbers for retail sales (and hide the ongoing collapse of the entire U.S. retail sector).

But it can’t hide the fact that U.S. refineries have nearly stopped producing gasoline for the most-motorized society/economy the world has ever seen. It can’t hide the fact that there haven’t been so few people working in the U.S. economy (on a percentage basis) in 35 years.

Readers who are stubbornly faithful to the plethora of pseudo-statistics which the U.S. government uses to hide this collapse may have been skeptical of my original denunciation of the “U.S. economic recovery”. They may have been more skeptical with assertions that this Wonderland Matrix of lies is being used to hide a Greater Depression.

However, there is no further room for skepticism when official, government numbers indicate a near-75% collapse in U.S. gasoline consumption over a mere 15 years, and a 65% collapse in consumption since the start of the (supposed) Recovery. Numbers such as this can only be encapsulated with acronyms like “DOA”.

When we look at the EIA’s “gasoline consumption” numbers, and when we see the St. Louis Fed’s chart of the U.S. velocity of money (heartbeat of the U.S. economy); we don’t see an economy which is dying. We see an economy which is already dead.

The Prophecies of Li Chunfeng

Posted in Uncategorized, War, Warnings on May 30, 2014 by betweentwopines

Lee, Chung-Feng, the personal prophet and military counsel of the 1st emperor of Tong dynasty (765 AD) is one of the most accurate prophets ever existed in China.  He was a famous I-Ching and astrology master.  He wrote a book which has 60 poems and 60 cartoon drawings.   Each poem has a drawing, and each poem is a prophecy which describes a Chinese historical event that will occur in order.  Which means, the 36th poem will definitely happen before the 40th poem.   Poem # 60 is the end of his prophecy.  Out of 60 prophecies, 55 of them have already been fulfilled.  Every prophecy has to do with Chinese history.

From Wiki….

” Tui bei tu is a Chinese prophecy book from the 7th-century Tang dynasty. The book is known for predicting the future of China, and is written by Li Chunfeng and Yuan Tiangang. It has been compared to the works of famous western prophet Nostradamus. ”

” The book is supposed to contain clues to China’s future conveyed through a series of 60 surreal drawings, each accompanied by an equally obscure poem.1 The title means “Back-Pushing Sketch” and comes from the last illustration.”

” Each poem is a prophecy, which describes a Chinese historical event that will occur in order. For example, the 36th poem should occur before the 40th poem. Poem number 60 is the last prophecy.  ”

Poem #39   Japan invades China

When sun rises, everyone cries.  The air of December is not good.   South mountain has a bird, and the North is fallen.  When the chicken makes a noise, the sun shall set.

Explanation:  The sun represents the Empire of Japan.  The air of December is not good.  On December 9th, 1941, China declared war on Japan.  South mountain means Hong Kong, French Indochina, and Philippines.  South mountain has a bird means there is danger in the south.  North is fallen means Manchuria, the north of China, has already been conquered by the Japanese.  When the chicken makes a noise, the sun shall set.  The chicken, in Chinese calendar, also represents September or the west.  In this case, chicken represents the west, which is USA.  When USA dropped atomic bomb on Japan, the sun shall set.

Already Fulfilled3 kids are voting. Poem #40   The Republic of China (Taiwan)

1, 2, 3, and 4.  A landlord without a land.  Little government, functions beside the communists.  The one from the east is snobbish.  On the head, there is no Mao.  And on his feet, there are no shoes.   If Lee comes out, the frost will dissolve.  The one who created me is the monkey, and the one who killed me is the bear.

Explanation:  1, 2, 3, 4 means 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10.  That means the Republic of China will have 10 presidents.  Right now, Chen Sui Bien of Taiwan is the 10th president.   So Chen will be the last president of the Republic of China.  So this prophecy foretold that Chen will either declear independence of Taiwan and change the name from ‘Republic of China’ into ‘Republic of Taiwan’, or Taiwan will be invaded and be conquered by the Communist China.   A landlord without a land means the first few presidents of Taiwan have no control over China although they said they represent the entire China.  Little government functions beside the communists.  The one from the east is snobbish.    On the head, there is no Mao means Taiwan, an island located in the East coast of China, does not take orders from Mao.  On his feet, there are no shoes means Taiwan has no adequate weapons and it does not have enough people to back it up.  If Lee comes out, the frost will dissolve.  This points to Lee Deng Huay.  Lee Deng Huay was the 9th president.  When Lee took over the office, he allowed the Taiwanese citizens to visit China.  China and Taiwan also started  import/exporting in his era.  So the frost between China and Taiwan did dissolve when Lee appeared.  ‘The one who created me is the monkey, and the one who killed me is the bear.’ Monkey, in Chinese astrology, represents the West.   The West is USA.  USA was the one which helped the Republic of China come to power.  So this means that the USA created the Republic of China.  The bear represents Soviet Union.  Soviet Union helped the Communist China come to power.   So the bear is the one which will kill the Republic of China.  This indicates that in the future, the Communist China will destroy Taiwan!  All right!  Give me 5!

God is blind.  The grass and trees grew downward.  + and – switch positions.  Up is earth, and down is the sun.  Everyone must wear red on his head without a head.  Abusing the power, when will this end?  9 and 19 years of big mistake.

Explanation: The grass and trees grew downward. + and – switch positions.  Up is earth, and down is the sun. Every sentence described the characteristic of communism, which ignored the importance of economy and defied social status.  Everyone must wear red on his head without a head means everyone blindly followed communism.  People don’t use their brains.  Nobody realized that communism is nothing but a big joke.  9 and 19 years of big mistake means 28 years of misery for China.   (9 + 19 = 28)  Mao established the People’s Republic of China in 1949, and he died in the year 1976.  That’s exactly 28 years!  (You must count 1949 as 1 year, as how a traditional Chinese would count.)

A beautiful woman comes from the west.  The dynasty becomes peaceful.  The bow is on the ground.  Dangerous, but not so dangerous.   She messes with the government.

Explanation:  Song Ching-Lin was the wife of Sun Wen, the establisher of People’s Republic of China.  She studied in United States before she returned to China to marry Sun.  When she came to power in the 1920s, China became a lot more peaceful and economy has improved quite a bit.  In 1926, she publicly accused Chiang, Kai-Shek of being a traitor of the Republican Party.   The bow is on the ground.  Dangerous, but not so dangerous means Chiang Kai-Shek would like to murder her just like the way how he murdered all of his other opponents.  But too bad that Song was the wife of the deceased founder of the Republican Party.  Murdering her will also ruin Chiang’s own reputation.  And on top of that, Song was also the sister of Chiang’s wife.   Each time Chiang came up with a plan to physically hurt Song, his wife always ruined his plan in order to protect her sister.  Therefore, she spoke out against Chiang’s government with full potential and successfully led many mass protests against Chiang.

Explanation:  King is not king.   Noble is not noble means Cheng Kai-Shek has escaped to Taiwan.  He no longer is the ruler of China, but he also does not take orders from Mao.  The black rabbit escapes into the green dragon’s cave.  Cheng is the black rabbit.  Black rabbit means Cheng is an old fox.   In Chinese astrology, the green dragon represents the east.  This means Cheng escapes to the east (Taiwan) and found a new shelter.  Want to end, but don’t feel like ending means Cheng refused to recognize the communist government as the legal government of China.  Cheng swore to take China back from the communists.  The branch has grew outside of the fence.  30 years will the offspring grow means Taiwan will be isolated from China for 30 years before the republican government allows Taiwanese citizens to visit China.

Explanation:  When Mao Tze-Dong took over China, everything was going great.  The communist party proposed new laws which benefited the majority of the people.  For example, they prohibited men marrying more than 1 wives.   They prohibited the use of drugs and prostitution.  They executed all famous gangsters.  The liberation army took over Tibet and ended Tibet’s inhumane slave trade and ridiculous religious laws.  Everyone called Mao a saint.

Explanation:  Americans came to invade Korea, but they were confronted by the Liberation Army.  At first, the Americans thought that Chinese soldiers are easy to crush.  But soon they realized that China is not that easy to handle.

  • They wash away our shame with metal, water, wood, and fire.   (Out of 5 basic elements, the soil element is missing.)  This sentence means that foreign invaders will not gain one inch of soil from asia.

Metal turtles lie in the white ocean means tanks are rolling in the snow.  In both the Korean War and the Vietnamese War, Americans lost to the Chinese.  After the Americans have experienced these 2 wars, they no longer dare to say that they are the boss.

Explanation:  After Mao has screwed China for many years, Pang, De-Hyai, a five-star general, started to openly complain about Mao’s stupid policy.   Pang and Mao started shouting at each other in a conference meeting.  Thousands of people don’t die, but one person cannot escape means Mao threatened to lead a part of the liberation army to confront Pang’s troops if Pang does not resign.  So Pang did resign in order to avoid a civil war.  He kept saying that he is older means Pang said that he knows more than Mao.  Dong has the golden sword means Mao Ze-Dong has all the power.  Knights will rush in from the back door means Pang was dragged out from the back door of his house by the red guards.  Don’t need to draw a sword to kill someone means the red guards did not physically beat him.  Pang died of extreme embarrassment and anger in front of thousands of red guards.

Explanation: Liu Shao-Ch’i, the Chief of the communist party of China, was predicted in this poem.  Unlike the stupid farmer Mao, Liu was a honored college student who studied in Moscow.  No emperor and no king will be there to rule means after Mao messed up, people looked up to Liu.  Liu became the chairman and the head of state of the party.  Mao was still the king of China, but Mao no longer ruled.  What ever Liu said was the law.  This guy is the first guy to come to the farm means after Mao made people abandon their farms to go work on steel production (which resulted the biggest famine in world history), Liu ordered the farmers back to their farms and cultivate.  He studied so hard, and it paid off means Liu’s policy will generate great results.  Liu practiced modern economic and market development.  He was about to alter the course of China.

Explanation:  Jiang Ching was Mao’s wife.  After Liu Shao Ch’i has been killed by the red guards, Jiang Ching has played a major roll in Chinese politics.  She has motivated the cultural revolution with her talented acting skill on theatre stages and on radio shows from 1966 – 1976.  After the effection from a woman comes to pass, it’s all peaceful again means after Mao died in 1976, she was immediately arrested by another party leader.  At first, they gave her a death sentence.  But later on, the party lowered her sentence to a ‘life in prison’.  She has been locked up in jail until she allegedly committed suicide in May of 1991.  There will be a change in the weather, and her time is 16 and long live means from the year of her arrest (1976) until the year she died (1991), it was exactly 16 years (If you count 1976 as a year, just like how a Chinese would count.).  A change in the weather could mean that they lowered her sentence from a death sentence to a ‘life in prison’.  She died at the age 78.

Already Fulfilled Poem #52  Border conflict with Soviet Union (1969)See a falling star, which means bad luck in the North-East.  A man must do what a man must do.  The spearhead points to the East.  There still is an emperor in the South.  The visitors won’t stay for long.  We still have a business to run.

Explanation:  In the year 1969, Russians invaded few North-East provinces of China.  Mao played tough with the Soviets and decided to fight back.  Mao showed the Soviets that there still is an emperor in the South.  In the end, Chinese have successfully driven out the invaders.

Already Fulfilled Poem # 53    Deng XiaopingBorn to be king.  He is a gentle scholar.  He believes in the natural ways of life.  A loyal son comes from the west.  He holds the power and brought peace to China.  Two beautiful flags are floating in the palace.  The descendent is better than the ancestor.

Explanation:  He believes in the natural ways of life means Deng did not believe in communism.  He transformed China into an economic superpower by pacing the capitalist way. A loyal son comes from the West means Deng studied in France.  “A loyal son” means he was born in China, and now he came back from the West.  Two beautiful flags are floating in the palace means Deng allowed the existence of both communism and capitalism. The descendent is better than the ancestor means Deng is better than Mao.

An image of a group of children forcing the cow to move forward.  (The cow represents the slowly changing Chinese society.   This image gives me a picture of a protest.)

Poem # 54 Tienanmen Square MassacreMessy, a deadly result, a peaceful ending.  People laugh but cry.

They don’t think logically.   Shave the hair, peal the skin, and still act tough.       Out of this incident a real dragon is born.  The 9 Curves Yellow River’s water is not yellow.

Explanation: This poem predicted that a group of kids will protest against the government.  The kids don’t think logically.   This protest has a messy, deadly result.  But it will end peacefully.  This poem is talking about 1989’s Tiananmen Square incident.  About 300 students were killed.  Shave the hair, peal the skin, and still act tough means the college kids wore only pajamas and fasted for nearly 1 week, but they still act tough.   Out of this incident a real dragon is born means that a new leader will rise to power because of this. The 9 Curves Yellow River’s water is not yellow is basically telling us the new leader’s name.

At first,  Deng Shao-Ping  wanted to let  Zhao Ze-Yang  become the next leader.  But during the Tiananmen Square incident, Zhao supported the students.   Zhao was immediately arrested for supporting the students.  So instead, Jiang Ze-Ming becomes the next leader.

Jiang Ze-Ming’s name, if you pronounce it just like that, means ‘the water is clear’.  The Yellow River is the most famous river in China.  If the Yellow River’s water is not yellow, the ‘water is clear’.   Therefore, Jiang Ze-Ming became the next leader.

Here is another theory:  There are two main rivers in China.  One is the ‘Yellow River’, and the other one is the ‘Long Brook’.  (Foreigners call it “Yangtze River”.)   If the 9 Curves Yellow River’s water is not Yellow, it must be pointing at the Long Brook because Long Brook’s water is clear.  The Long Brook also has 9 main curves.  The word for “Brook” in Chinese is “Jiang”.  Therefore, Jiang Ze-Min becomes the new leader of China.

Both the Yellow River and the Long Brook have 9 main curves.

“Afraid therefore cautious.  A woman beside the water, bowing down to the sun.  Every move must be careful because there are other government officials watching.  Turns danger into safety and become brothers.  Who said I will lose my country?”This poem has clearly indicated that a man with the name “beside the water” will rise to power.  There is a woman beside him who will bow down to the sun.  President Chen Shui-Bien of Taiwan is that man.  His first name “Shui-Bien” means “beside the water” in Chinese.  He picked a woman to be his vice-president.  Few years ago, that woman went to Japan and bowed down to the Japanese imperial sun flag in a war criminal temple. (She is a total traitor)   Her action was later exposed by a newspaper.  Mainland China threats Chen for the unification of China.  Chen refuses.  Everyone toward the end of 1999 thought that China will attack Taiwan immediately.  Chen is pacing the way for the independence of Taiwan one little step at a time.  Yesterday, he edited all elementary and high school history text books.  Today, he changed the logo on the Taiwanese passport to say, “The government of Taiwan” instead of “The Republic of China”.  Tomorrow, he will change the flag and announce a formal independence of Taiwan.  The republican party and other parties are watching him, so he has to carry out his plan slowly and carefully.  He believes that at the end, he will turn danger into safety.  He believes that Taiwan will one day become a brother of China, not a part of China.  He doesn’t believe that China will ever wage war against Taiwan.

(World War 3)

Poem # 56 says:

Poem 56An image of 2 soldiers, each standing on a continent.   The 2 continents are separated by the ocean.  They do not use their hand held weapons.  They only spew fire at each other.  Two fish jump out of the ocean, and two birds are flying against each other. Flyers are not birds, swimmers are not fish,
A war does not depend on soldiers.  It’s a game of technology.
Millions of miles of deadly smoke, on top a mushroom and at bottom a fountain.
A sight out of people’s imagination.  Big trouble not solved, but greater trouble arrives.

Sounds like world war 3 to me.   What holy smoke could spread millions of miles and have a mushroom top and a fountain at the bottom?

Poem #57 says:

Poem 57An image of a kid pouring out the fire with water. In an extreme situation, things turn around.  A three-feet tall kid, made all foreigners bow down. When Blue West and Red East struggle, a son of God appears, a gentleman who brings peace and stops the killing.

This unbelievable genius is from the middle of the two, westernized and thus ended all wars for good.

Poem #58 says:

Poem 58An image of 4 men all carrying bows and arrows.  (Bows and arrows represent power.)  They all hold official seals in their hands.  (In ancient China, when government officials attend meetings, they all must hold their seals in their hands.)  This image indicates that there will be some kind of new world organization. Big trouble is over, and all foreigners gave in.  Become brothers.  Six – seven countries.Millions of miles without noise nor waves. Become brothers, become friends, and peaceful again.   Only remaining danger lies in north-west, thus we still cannot sing a global song of peace.

After the savior stopped the war, it’s peaceful again.  In an area north-west from China, there still is conflict.   Therefore global peace still cannot be accomplished.

Poem #59 says:

Poem 59An image of a man pulling a straw out of a cup.   (This straw and cup thing is a kind of Chinese oracle.)  This image indicates that this man will do things according to God’s will. No castles, no walls.  No my, no yours.
The entire world becomes one family, prosper throughout the globe. One man for the entire world’s joy,  Follows God’s will and prospers the world.
Red, yellow, black, white all together.  North, East, South, West in total harmony.

That’s the promised messiah.  The 4 colors represent the 4 races.  Everyone seems happy everywhere.

Poem #60 says:

Poem 60
An image of a man pushing another man’s back.
One negative, and one positive, a never ending cycle,
Enders end themselves.  Starters start themselves. The numbers of God will be studied at this stage.  The natural course of human race shall be broken.  Too many things to say here. Pushing the man’s back forcing him to rest is actually better.

Astrological sign: h – X
I-Ching sign: Combine

This poem is saying that the knowledge of God will fill the earth as much as the water which fills the sea.  In the future, people will study the numbers of God (mathematical formula).  The natural course of human race (aging, sickness, and death) will no longer exist.

That’s the end of the prophecy!!

Lee’s prophecies, all the way up to number 55, have been accurately fulfilled one by one.  He never made a mistake.   His last 5 prophecies will definitely be fulfilled soon, beginning with poem #56 which describes a world war 3.  Throughout this prophecy book, astrological and I-Ching indications can be seen on each page.  This suggests that Lee used mainly I-Ching to predict the future.

Lee’s 60 poems prophecy coincides with the old testament prophecies.  The old testament also predicted that there will be a great, fearsome war at the end, and a savior will appear ending all wars for good.   Then later, there will be an eternal kingdom of God which shall never be destroyed.   The old testament sounds just like Lee’s prophecy.  Some bible scholars believe that one day everyone will die and will go to heaven where souls become immortal.   But based on Lee’s prophecy poem #59, it said, “Red, yellow, black, white all together.  North, East, South, West in total harmony.”.  This clearly indicates that in the future, there still will be earth because there are north, east, south and west.  There are also people living on earth because the four races still exist.  People still have their flesh because different skin colors still exist.  Then they live happily ever after.  That was the end of his prophecy.   So the belief that everyone will die and will go to heaven and become immortal soul is a false belief.  Lee never said anything about everyone dying and going to heaven at the end.  And the old testament said that one day death will become a thing in the past as people become immortal.  Not “souls become immortal”, but “people become immortal”.

Archaeology, Anthropology and Interstellar Communication

Have aliens already visited Earth? Nasa book suggests that ancient rock art could have been created by extraterrestrials

  • A new book details the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (Seti)
  • In it the authors discuss the methods through which we might find aliens
  • These include searching for signs of life on planets or finding messages
  • The book details some of the challenges ahead for making first contact
  • But ultimately the authors say it is something that might happen one day

By Jonathan O’Callaghan

Each month a new planet is discovered that bears similarities to our own – and it is becoming increasingly apparent Earth is not unique.

So it stands to reason that of the billions of Earth-like planets in our galaxy alone, there might be another that hosts life.

It’s a thought that is gaining more credence all the time, and now Nasa has released a fascinating book detailing how, or if, we might communicate with some of these worlds.

A new book made for Nasa called Archaeology, Anthropology and Interstellar Communication details the methods through which we might communicate with aliens. Although this artist's illustration is a bit fanciful, the authors suggest that Earth may already have been visited

A new book made for Nasa called Archaeology, Anthropology and Interstellar Communication details the methods through which we might communicate with aliens. Although this artist’s illustration is a bit fanciful, the authors suggest that Earth may already have been visited

Some of the most interesting chapters tackle the issue of alien communication in the past, present and future.

In one section, for example, William Edmondson from the University of Birmingham considers the possibility that rock art on Earth is of extraterrestrial origin.

‘We can say little, if anything, about what these patterns signify, why they were cut into rocks, or who created them,’ he writes.

‘For all intents and purposes, they might have been made by aliens.’

The book is titled Archaeology, Anthropology and Interstellar Communication.

Vakoch begins the 330-page book by postulating how difficult it might be to make first contact.

‘If a radio signal is detected in a modern Seti experiment, we could well know that another intelligence exists, but not know what they are saying,’ he writes in the book’s introduction.

He goes on to add: ‘Even if we detect a civilisation circling one of our nearest stellar neighbours, its signals will have traversed trillions of miles, reaching Earth after travelling for years.’

But, all hope is not lost – throughout the book Vakoch and his colleagues tackle these very problems, and provide solutions that may prove invaluable in the future.

‘To move beyond the mere detection of such intelligence, and to have any realistic chance of comprehending it, we can gain much from the lessons learned by researchers facing similar challenges on Earth,’ he continues.

‘Like archaeologists who reconstruct temporally distant civilisations from fragmentary evidence, Seti researchers will be expected to reconstruct distant civilisations separated from us by vast expanses of space as well as time.

‘As we attempt to decode and interpret extraterrestrial messages, we will be required to comprehend the mindset of a species that is radically Other.’

Rock art, an example in Niger pictured, is cited as one possible example of aliens visiting Earth before. Ultimately, however, the authors detail some of the methods we might employ to search for alien life including scouring exoplanets for signs of civilisation

Elsewhere in the compendium the authors tackle the question of the possible biology, evolution and physics of an extraterrestrial race.

Vakoch explains how the methods via which aliens communicate might be vastly different from our own, making contact difficult.

He says that messaging through sound, as we are used to on Earth, might not be possible.

‘On the other hand, vision and the use of images would appear to be at least plausible,’ he writes.

The authors also detail way we could send messages of our own through methods such as Active Seti, using giant radio dishes like the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico (pictured). They say their are immense challenges in making first contact, but we can learn lessons from the history of civilisations on Earth

And, he adds, imaging the surface of habitable planets in the future might reveal ‘the physical arrangement of objects’ that suggests the presence of alien life.

Edmondson suggests, for example, that ‘an optical telescope of diameter 620 miles (1,000 miles) could resolve an object of diameter one kilometre (0.62 miles) at a distance of 100 light-years.’

Vakoch concludes his introduction with the monumental task awaiting scientists and scholars across the world, but highlights the importance of these studies and research.

‘These scholars are grappling with some of the enormous challenges that will face humanity if an information-rich signal emanating from another world is detected,’ he writes.

‘By drawing on issues at the core of contemporary archaeology and anthropology, we can be much better prepared for contact with an extraterrestrial civilisation, should that day ever come.’

                                                      THE HISTORY OF SETI

In 1959, Cornell physicists Gieuseppi Cocconi and Philip Morrison published an article discussing the potential to use microwave radio to communicate between stars.

A year later in 1960, astronomer Frank Drake conducted the first hunt for alien life with an 85-foot (25 metres) antenna in West Virgina, but after two months concedes defeat.
In the 1960s, Soviet Union performs extensive searches for ET, again with no success.

In the 1970s Nasa began to take an interest in Seti, with the chances of success seemingly growing as technology advanced.

In 1988, Nasa began sweeping surveys of the night sky for signals, but Congress terminated funding a few years later.

The independent Seti Institute, established in 1984, took over the job.

In 1992 the first planet outside the solar system is confirmed, an almost certainly uninhabitable world orbiting a pulsar.

In 2009 Nasa’s Kepler telescope launches and, over the next few years, finds hundreds of planets.

And just last month, the first planet of a similar size to Earth and at the correct distance from its parent star to host water, called Kepler 186-f, was found.

It is the most likely place that has been found that could host life as we know it.

It was edited for Nasa by Douglas Vakoch, Director of Interstellar Message Composition at the Seti Institute.

With the help of other experts he tackles a number of topics including the prospect of life on other planets and the means through which we might send or receive a message.

How to Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching

Posted in Gardening, Health, Household tips on May 23, 2014 by betweentwopines

Those pesky mosquitoes; you’ve been bitten and have tried everything to get those annoying bites to stop itching, but it has set in and is driving you crazy! Rest assured that there are numerous ways to treat the mosquito bite to cure the itch.

Method 1 of 13: Initial response

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 1 Version 2.jpg
    1

Be aware that the itching will not completely die down until the blemish has healed properly. The itch itself is caused by the mosquito’s saliva, an anticoagulant. It causes our bodies to produce a histamine response, creating a slight itchiness around the bite area from a mild allergic reaction.[1] For people who are more sensitive to mosquito bites, the healing time can take longer than for those less susceptible, so it’s merely a case of knowing your limits and treating yourself regularly and effectively.

    • Do your best not to scratch the itch! Doing so will aggravate the irritation, making it itchier and more prone to infection. [2]
  2. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 2 Version 2.jpg
    2

Deal with the bites when they first occur. As soon as possible, aim to reduce the potential for severe itching by treating the bite areas. Clean the bite area with rubbing alcohol, alcohol wipes, or plain water.[3]

    • For those who have a severe reaction to the bites and look as if they’ve caught chicken pox, apply an antihistamine cream or lotion.[4] Especially effective are ointments containing a combination of an antihistamine, analgesic, and corticosteroid, as this can relieve both pain and itching.[5]
    • Washing with an antiseptic will often relieve initial pain from an insect bite.[6]
    • If an infection develops from the bites, or from scratching them, see your physician promptly.
  3. 3

Select an itch-soothing solution from one of the many methods listed below. The choice you make should be guided by what you have available, the cost involved, any allergies to ingredients, ease of use, and familiarity with the solution. You may find that some solutions work better for you than others. All of them have been discovered by many other mosquito itch sufferers over time, and it’s case of working out which ones you like the most through trial and error. Naturally, always speak to your doctor for advice should you have any concerns, if you appear to have had a severe allergic reaction or if your bites are not healing.

Method 2 of 13: Baking soda treatment

A strong alkaline solution will often ease insect itching.[7] Two forms of homemade pastes with baking soda are known to be especially effective at this.

  1. 1

Mix baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) and warm water:

    • One tablespoon to one pint of water is a good ratio to use.
    • Gently apply to the affected area. Use your clean fingers(not the dirty ones), a cotton swab or a popsicle stick to apply.
    • Leave on for a few minutes, then wash off with warm water.[8]
  2. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 6 Version 2.jpg
    2

Mix baking soda and household cleaner:

    • Mix a few drops of household cleaning ammonia with baking soda to form a paste.
    • Apply gently to the affected area and allow to dry. This should relieve the itching.
    • Remove with warm water.[9] Note that household ammonia can also be dabbed onto the bites by itself.

Method 3 of 13: Apple cider vinegar treatment

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 7 Version 2.jpg
    1

    Apply vinegar to the bite:

    • Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar.
    • Place the soaked cotton ball over the mosquito bites. If you don’t want to hold it, tape it in place.
    • Leave there for a few minutes. You should find that the pain stops.
  2. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 8 Version 2.jpg
    2

    Make a vinegar paste:

    • Make a thick paste of cornflour and apple cider vinegar.
    • Gently apply the paste to the affected area.
    • Allow to dry. It will alleviate the itching by the time it has dried.
    • Wash off using warm water. You could also place tape or a bandage over this to leave it on longer.
  3. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 10 Version 2.jpg
    3

Try adding some distilled witch hazel to calamine lotion as an effective pain relief and itch soother for mosquito bites.[10]

Method 4 of 13: Water

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 11 Version 2.jpg
    1

Whether it’s ice cold or piping hot, using water may help alleviate the itches. The method you choose probably depends most on which temperature you like best applied to your skin!

  2. 2

Take a nice, relaxing hot bath. The addition of strong chickweed tea, two tablespoons of cider vinegar, or two cups ground oatmeal to the bath can help to alleviate itching.[11]

  3. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 13 Version 2.jpg
    3

If you’re near the sea, take a dip in seawater. You can also add salt to hot water to make salt water.[12]

  4. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 14 Version 2.jpg
    4

Dip a wash cloth into hot water, but not so hot that it burns your skin. Press the wet part of the cloth against the bite. Hold it there until you feel the bite tingle. Repeat once or twice. Your nerves will be confused and the itching will vanish for hours. The heat causes all the histamine (the protein used by the body to initiate immune responses, which include irritation and itching) in the skin surrounding the bite to be released at once.

  5. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 15 Version 2.jpg
    5

Apply an ice pack or ice cubes to the bites.[13][14] You should leave this on the affected area for about 20 minutes.

  6. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 16 Version 2.jpg
    6

While not quite water alone, cooled tea can work wonders when applied to insect bites.[15] Apply to the affected area in a manner similar to a compress.

Method 5 of 13: Items in your bathroom cabinet

Your bathroom cabinet holds everyday solutions for itching that you might not have thought about:

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 18 Version 2.jpg
    1

Rub a wet aspirin over the affected area.[16] Naturally, do not use this method if the person is allergic to aspirin.

  2. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 19 Version 2.jpg
    2

Dab some toothpaste over the bite area.[17] This can work like a charm to relieve itching. Regular flavored toothpaste is the best option for this method.

    • Use any non-gel tooth paste. Gel toothpaste is not suitable for this method.
    • Rub it on your bite but leave a glop.
    • Let it dry overnight.
    • Wash in the morning with cold water and mild soap. The toothpaste will dry the bite out, removing any irritation.
  3. 3

Try mouthwash. Simply dab over the affected area and leave to dry.[18]

  4. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 21 Version 2.jpg
    4

Rub some underarm deodorant on the bite area.[19] Try to use a non-scented deodorant if possible.

  5. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 22 Version 2.jpg
    5

Mixing crushed Tums tablets with water creates a paste that can be effective in relieving itching from mosquito bites.

Method 6 of 13: Soap

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 23 Version 2.jpg
    1

Wash the infected area using soap and water.[20] Soap may be enough to relieve the itching. Use a mild soap, so as to not increase the irritation of the skin.

  2. 2

Rub a bar of dry or wet soap over the itchy area.[21]

Method 7 of 13: Mud

Mud provides a cooling sensation that temporarily relieves itching. If you’re outdoors, make do with what you’ve got!

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 26 Version 2.jpg
    1

Apply mud to the affected area. Cover with a bandage to hold it in place.

  2. 2

    Leave to dry.

  3. 3

Wash off the dried-on mud with water.[22]

Method 8 of 13: Essential oils

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 29 Version 2.jpg
    1

Use lavender oil. Dabbing small amounts of lavender oil direct to the affected area can relieve the itching quickly.[23]

  2. 2

Use melaleuca or tea tree (ti-tree) oil. This oil is known as a cure-all for many problems and it can also alleviate the itching from mosquito bites.

Method 9 of 13: Herbal or plant remedies

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 31 Version 2.jpg
    1

Rub aloe vera gel or broken leaf from an aloe vera plant on the bite area to relieve itching.[24][25]

  2. 2

Apply a poultice of witch hazel to the affected area. Witch hazel will soothe almost any inflamed area of skin.[26]

  3. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 33 Version 2.jpg
    3

Fresh basil leaves that are crushed and directly applied to the area also naturally relieve itching symptoms.

Method 10 of 13: Commercial preparations

There are a few commercial items that may or may not be made to treat mosquito bite itching, but still have the intended effect.

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 35 Version 2.jpg
    1

Try Vicks Vaporub®. Keep applying Vicks® to the area, especially if it rubs off.[27]

  2. 2

Use nail polish (preferably clear). Be sure that the bite is not raw from scratching. This keeps it from itching and acts as a seal to protect it.[28]

  3. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 37 Version 2.jpg
    3

Look for preparations made to alleviate insect bites and stings. Products such as Stingose, Aspivenin, and After Bite can help to alleviate pain. Other products such as Bactine, Solarcaine, and first-aid creams can also help.[29] Follow the instructions accompanying the product. If you can’t find one, talk to your pharmacist.

Method 11 of 13: Fruits and veggies

A few fruits can be put to good use in easing the itching pain.

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 39 Version 2.jpg
    1

Cut a lemon or lime into pieces and rub gently on the affected area, or just squirt a bit of juice on it. Citric acid has some itch-relieving properties.[30]

  2. 2

Use the common plantain. Either roll leaves of common plantain between your fingers to extract the juice or rub the juicy leaf over mosquito bite. The itch goes away in less than a minute.[31]

  3. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 41 Version 2.jpg
    3

Rub the inside of a banana skin (peel) onto the bite.

  4. 4

Rub the sap of an onion over the bite.[32][33]

Method 12 of 13: Camping food

If all you have to turn to is your camping food, it still may contain some goodies that can help soothe the itching!

  1. Stop Mosquito Bites from Itching Step 44 Version 2.jpg
    1

Crack an egg. Inside the shell of the egg you will find a flexible membrane. Cover the bite with the membrane and let dry. As it contracts, it will draw out some of the toxin.

  2. 2

Use your breakfast oatmeal. Oatmeal is renowned for its anti-itching properties, so make a small paste of it and apply to the bite area. Allow to dry, then wash off.[34]

  3. 3

Add a little meat tenderizer to the bite area. Mix it in water first before applying.[35]

  4. 4

Apply some honey to the bite area.[36]

Method 13 of 13: Manual methods

  1. 1

Use your fingernail to press “sunbursts” around the mosquito bite. This is a good method if the mosquito bite has popped.

    2

Use your fingernail to press an “X” into the bite. This disperses the protein and stops the itch for a while.

  3. 3

Try drawing around it using a ballpoint pen. This works to relieve the pain in some people.

  4. 4

Take a rubber band and give yourself a “spider bite”, or put two fingers in the rubber band, put the fingers on either side of the bite, pull the rubber band back and snap it on the bite. This will numb the nerves so it doesn’t itch; it’s not a permanent fix and you should be careful as it could hurt you even more!

  5. 5

Put a piece of Scotch tape (or similar) onto the bite. Wash the area with rubbing alcohol or ammonia first.[37]Leaving it there will make the itch almost entirely go away. After a few hours, remove it. This will help remove some of the toxins that cause the itch.

  6. 6

Place your own saliva on the bites. Leave it to soak in. For some people, this relieves the itching.[38]

Congress reaffirms indefinite detention of Americans under NDAA

The US House of Representatives approved an annual defense spending bill early Thursday after rejecting a proposed amendment that would have prevented the United States government from indefinitely detaining American citizens.

An amendment introduced in the House on Wednesday this week asked that Congress repeal a controversial provision placed in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 that has ever since provided the executive branch with the power to arrest and detain indefinitely any US citizen thought to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda or associated organizations.

“This amendment would eliminate indefinite detention in the United States and its territories,” Rep. Adam Smith (D-Washington), a co-author of the failed amendment, said during floor debate on Wednesday, “So basically anybody that we captured, who we suspected of terrorist activity, would no longer be subject to indefinite detention, as is now, currently, the law.”

“That is an enormous amount of power to give the executive, to take someone and lock them up without due process,” Smith added. “It is an enormous amount of power to grant the executive, and I believe places liberty and freedom at risk in this country.”

Pres. Barack Obama vowed when he signed the 2012 NDAA into law on December 31, 2011 that he would not use the indefinite detention powers provided to him by Congress. When that provision was challenged in federal court, however, the White House fought back adamantly and appealed a District Court ruling that initially reversed the indefinite detention clause, eventually sending the challenge to the Supreme Court where it stalled until earlier this month with the justices there said they would not consider the case.

The bill sponsored by Smith and co-author Rep. Paul Broun (R-Georgia) would have given the legislative branch a chance to repeal the same provisions that SCOTUS declined to hear, but the bipartisan amendment failed on a vote of 191 to 230.

A separate proposal from Rep. Smith meant to expedite the shut-down of the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba was also rejected early Thursday; an amendment from Rep. Dennis Ross (R-Florida) intended to cut federal funding for recreational facilities at Gitmo, however, was approved in the NDAA draft that left the House on Thursday.

On Twitter, Smith said he was “disappointed” but “won’t stop fighting to pass this critical legislation.”

And while the White House is unlikely to abandon its own fight with regards to keep the indefinite detention provision intact, the Obama administration threatened to vote this year’s NDAA because it would continue to complicate the president’s promise to close the Guantanamo Bay facility — a vow older than his own administration.

“If this year’s Defense Authorization bill continues unwarranted restrictions regarding Guantanamo detainees, the president will veto the bill,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said in a statement Wednesday evening.

When the 2011 NDAA passed Congress with the controversial indefinite detention provision included, the White House said at the time that it would veto the legislation before Pres. Obama eventually balked.
